What's the difference between Taiko and other Layers 2s ?

The primary distinction between Taiko and other Layer 2 solutions lies in its basis as a rollup that is fully permissionless for participation. Anyone can propose blocks or prove blocks on our test net. Taiko aims to scale Ethereum by being Ethereum-equivalent, meaning it supports all EVM opcodes without any modifications to the developer environment. Specifically, Taiko fully implements the Ethereum Yellow Paper specifications on the execution layer.

Additionally, Taiko introduces the innovative concept of booster rollups to natively scale Ethereum. As an open-sourced project under the MIT license, Taiko operates as a geth fork. This Ethereum-equivalent zk rollup ensures that all L2 transactions maintain the security of the Ethereum network.

Taiko employs zk EVM circuits, enabling a zk EVM that supports smart contracts. By leveraging validity proofs and zk proofs, Taiko enhances censorship resistance and reduces transaction fees. It is designed to function with execution clients, providing a robust and scalable solution within the Ethereum ecosystem.
